How to Introduce Spanish To Toddlers!

Studies show that to learn a second language, parents need to start early. Start your child off on the right track by introducing Spanish language. Creatively introducing Spanish to young children is easy because they are at the age where their minds can easily grasp information. Learning a second language is a rewarding experience that the entire family can become involved in.

 

Things You’ll Need:

• Spanish Flash Cards
• Bi-lingual Picture Books
• Bi-lingual CD’s / Dvd’s

 

•  Have lots of colorful Spanish flash cards on hand for your child such as counting with numbers, days of the week, food, animals, colors and shapes. Play a matching game and say the Spanish word out loud. Then ask your child to pick the correct matching flash card: Example: Elefante! ¿Donde esta el elefante? ¿Cual es el caballo? Where is the elephant? Which one is the horse?
• Reinforce language by speaking beginning and everyday phrases only in Spanish with your toddler. Substitute Spanish words for everyday words used at home such as when learning manners.
  ¿ Cual es la palabra magica? What is the magic word?
  Por favor = Please
  Gracias = Thank you
  De nada = You’re Welcome
  Muy Bueno = Very good

Reinforce language by speaking beginning and everyday phrases only in Spanish with your toddler. Substitute Spanish words for everyday words used at home when speaking to your toddlers such as juice, play, bed, etc. Whenever possible, Say and Show the words, or Act the Words Out.  The creative opportunities to introduce Spanish to your toddlers are limitless!
